Our tipsters noticed that the lights went out yesterday at one of the East Village’s largest and most significant restaurant projects in recent years. Modern Italian eatery, cafe and market Bottega Americano, which opened in Summer 2014 at the base of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law building, has shuttered for good. The sleekly designed space spanned an ambitiously-large 8,000-square-feet, which encompassed a full-service restaurant and bar plus an outdoor patio and retail market with grab-and-go foods. In the dining room, demonstration kitchens prepared everything from pizza to pasta and desserts.
Ownership cited several challenges as reasons that ultimately lead to the closure decision, including the restaurant’s location at the corner of Island Avenue and Park Boulevard, and the lack of traffic in that area which could not successfully support the size and style of the concept.
