Stroll Inside North Park’s New Neighborhood Hangout

Working Class opens on 30th Street

A new casual bar and eatery, friendly to both kids and dogs, is just settling in on 30th Street. Working Class replaces Ritual Tavern after its ten-year-long residence. Sold to Paul Fatta by Location Matters — Fatta runs Bayside Landing on Ingraham Street and the recently opened vegan restaurant Second Nature in Pacific Beach — the eatery’s operating partner is Jeffrey Kiyama, a longtime manager at the Verant Group’s bustling Barleymash. The owners have thoroughly redone the North Park building, adding in fresh windows and skylights, expanding the front and back patios and doubling the bar space, with 30 taps of craft beer, wine, kombucha and coffee fed by a new cold room.

Kiyama tells Eater that he hopes Working Class will find longevity in the community by offering a laid-back gathering place that features food at accessible prices while still providing full table service. The diner-style menu has salads, sandwiches and 1/3-pound burgers that range from $7 to $10, with entrees, including chicken pot pie and shrimp and grits, ringing in at $12. A weekday happy hour offers $5 starters and $4 draft beer and wine.

Open from 9 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, Working Class serves breakfast until 2 p.m. and its full menu until 10 p.m.
