An international chain with more than 300 locations around 20 countries is making plans to blanket San Diego with its fast-casual eateries. Originally founded in Canada, Freshii is headquartered in Toronto but its three local franchise partners, Alex Black, Chris Allen and John Christensen, all live in the San Diego area.

Attracted to Freshii’s concept of making healthy food convenient and affordable, the partners are planning to open five locations in the near future and as many as 50 in the long run so that neighborhoods throughout San Diego can have access to Freshii. Its menu is based on signature and customizable bowls, burritos, salads, wraps, soups, smoothies and juices as well as frozen yogurt and breakfast. The eatery also offers pre-packaged daily meal boxes.

The first location is slated to launch this spring in Pacific Beach, to be followed by outposts in Hillcrest, the USD area and downtown in the Spreckels Theatre.
