Popular sandwich purveyor Big Front Door is gearing up for a move, albeit a close one. The eatery is staying within the neighborhood of University Heights, which it has served since 2012; its new location will anchor Polk and Park, a 54-unit multi-use apartment project from local architect/developer Jonathan Segal. Big Front Door owner Steve “Sheep” Riley says the transition should be smooth, with the original shop closing and the new one opening this June.
The 1,600-square-foot corner space will include a 700-square-foot patio. BFD’s fast-casual menu will transfer over, but the Polk and Park outpost will extend its hours to be open all day and expand its menu to include breakfast. Riley, who also runs the food component of Bottlecraft’s Solana Beach bottle shop, tells Eater that he’s planning to offer beer and wine at this spot.
