After nearly 40 years as a local go-to in Point Loma, Natural Style Chicken is branching out to Hillcrest. Founded in 1979, the unassuming counter service eatery officially opens its newest location on Friday, December 21 on the corner of Fifth and University where it replaces Tokyo Ramen. Open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, its look has been significantly updated and modernized but the menu remains the same, with familiar favorites including chicken teriyaki, beef ribs, Korean-style short ribs, and rotisserie chicken served as whole, half, or quarter birds. Chicken also factors into an eclectic variety of snacks, from gyoza and egg rolls to taquitos. The on-site, wood-fired rotisserie also roasts whole turkeys and ducks, which can be pre-ordered for parties.

Owner Inho Choi has added some dishes that will be exclusive to Hillcrest, from deep fried shrimp toast and cauliflower to shishito peppers and chicken wings seasoned with sweet chili or garlic parmesan. Beer and wine will also be offered, as well as soju flavored with pomegranate, sour apple, blue raspberry, and more.
