WhipHand Debuts in the Gaslamp

Self-serve beer taps and a Southern-inspired menu arrive to J Street

Grind & Prosper Hospitality, whose current operations include Mission Beach’s Miss B’s Coconut Club and Carlsbad’s Park 101, will open their third location, WhipHand, on Friday, December 14 on the corner of Tenth and J Street.

The 2,000-square-foot space is styled after traditional French brasseries with a modern update, showcasing the industrial framework of the building. There will be outdoor patio seating, as well, and an open kitchen once inside. At the bar are 24 self-serve draught beer taps along with a full-service cocktail bar.

The menu is rooted in American staples, like lobster rolls, gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, breads, savory pies and finger foods. Many dishes on the menu are influenced by Grind and Prosper’s culinary director, Quinnton Austin, who recently arrived to San Diego from New Orleans, where he trained at the Culinary Institute of New Orleans.

At the moment, WhipHand will be open Sunday through Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. The restaurant is located at 935 J Street, San Diego, CA 92101 and can be reached at (619)-450-5515.
