Oh happy day; Eater’s learned that the grand opening of Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee in Del Mar Highlands Town Center is scheduled for Monday, December 17, with doors opening at 6:30 a.m. The celebrated doughnut shop, known as one of Southern California’s very finest, runs bustling outposts in Costa Mesa and Santa Monica and has another branch coming to Torrance.
Starting today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. , Sidecar is launching a series of “A-Doughnut-A-Day Giveaway Days” that will feature free doughnuts (one classic cake and one classic raised flavor per person) and a sneak peek at the sleek shop. The giveaway continues from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, with a community open house planned for 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, December 13 that will offer guests one free doughnut of their choice and a free drip coffee.
After Monday’s grand opening, the store will be open daily at 6:30 a.m., closing at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 6 p.m. on Sunday. 6:30am to 4:00pm. For the rest of December, Sidecar will be featuring its eight core flavors, from Huckleberry and Butter & Salt to Saigon Cinnamon Crumb, Madagascar Vanilla Glazed, Maple Bacon, and Basil Eggs Benedict, a Malasada-style doughnut filled with a poached egg, ham, and a housemade basil hollandaise sauce. A special Christmas Cake flavor will also be available. Starting in the new year, expect 15 rotating flavors including a gluten-free variety, all freshly fried throughout the day in small batches. The shop also has its own coffee blend and brews up classic espresso drinks, Vietnamese iced coffee, and more.
Co-founder Sumter Pendergrast tells Eater that Sidecar plans to focus its expansion efforts in the Southern California region, which thankfully includes more locations in the San Diego area.
