Some fresh dining options are coming to Liberty Public Market in the new year. In addition to a seafood hand roll bar, the food hall is adding a new barbecue spot from the owners of one of the market’s most popular vendors, Mastiff Kitchen. Led by executive chef/partner Eric Gallerstein and co-owner Jacob Bartlett, who also operate an eatery inside North Park Beer Company. The Pig’s Gig will pop up next to Liberty Public Market’s cocktail bar, where it will share space with an offshoot of Little Italy’s Landini’s Pizzeria and a yet unannounced concept.
Scheduled to open in mid-January, The Pig’s Gig will feature a smoker fueled by Texas post oak. Describing his barbecue as “Texas style with California flair”, Gallerstein recently traveled through barbecue country researching the menu, which will range from smoked USDA prime beef brisket to baby back ribs, pulled pork, turkey breast, and smoked sausages; Mastiff is known for its handcrafted links, which are available hot or ready to cook at home at its market stall.
At The Pig’s Gig, meat will be sliced to order and sold by the pound along with classic sides. It will also be available in sandwiches and featured in tacos and chili. The barbecue will be added to Mastiff’s catering offerings as well, which are run by its well-established food truck.
