Indian Restaurant Sails Into South Park

Curryosity is now open

A long-dormant restaurant space in South Park, vacant for three years, has finally been filled by Curryosity, a new Indian eatery that’s now up and running on Juniper Street. Owner Raj Mutti, who also operates an Indian spot called Spice Lounge in Pacific Beach, has invested nearly $100,000 into a refresh of the eatery, updating its kitchen and giving a makeover to the dining area and bar.

Mutti is trying to secure a beer and wine license for the restaurant, and plans to pour India’s iconic Kingfisher lager as well as local brews alongside wines that pair well with Indian food. Currently open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, Curryosity will start offering lunch service starting next month. Its menu includes classic dishes that are bestsellers at Spice House, from tikka masala to chicken vindaloo, plus some new starters that could be classified as “Indian fusion”, including curry fries, naan bread stuffed with mozzerella cheese, and curry mussels. Future menu options include curries that can be customized with a variety of proteins, from tofu to shrimp. Mutti tells Eater that he hopes to expand Curryosity, with an eye on North Park and North County for upcoming locations.
