The day has come; Menya Ultra Ramen will launch in Mira Mesa this coming Monday, October 22. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m. with District 6 Councilman Chris Cate, the ramen shop, located in the Mira Mesa Shopping Center next to Grocery Outlet, will open for business at 11 a.m. The eatery will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 22 and Tuesday, October 23 before pausing service until its grand opening on Friday, October 26, when it will commence regular operating hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (closed Mondays).
The original Kearny Mesa restaurant was the first in the U.S. for ramen master Takashi Endo, who has 13 other ramen restaurants around the globe. The breakout hit of 2017, it won Andrew Zimmern’s approval as well as Eater’s Restaurant of the Year award and continues to draw crowds to this day for its handmade noodles and exemplary ramen.
The new Mira Mesa space is slightly bigger, holding 52 seats and designed in a clean and modern style. Diners will find all their favorites, from tonkotsu ramen and tantan men to chicken karaage and tempura ice cream; the chef will also offer negi miso ramen, his bestselling dish from Akita, Japan, which features the white parts of green onions and miso pork broth. Mr. Endo plans to rolls out special menu items too, including tsukemen, noodles served with a separate bowl of soup for dipping.
