City Tacos Opening Tortilla Factory and Eatery in East County

On the heels of last’s month opening of City Tacos Village Taqueria in La Mesa, an extension of his popular North Park eatery, City Tacos owner Gerry Torres is gearing up to debut another dining destination in East County.

Scheduled to launch on Monday, January 22 in El Cajon is Tortilla N’ Taco Factory (TNT), with Tony Mcgann, City Tacos’ founding chef, on board as chef partner and general manager. Torres says that TNT will serve many classic City Tacos menu items and introduce some new styles — from tacos vampiros, in which the tortilla is flame grilled and spread with refried beans before being piled with toppings, to mulas, which sandwich a filling between two soft tortillas. There will also be a couple Middle Eastern-influenced renditions inspired by the shawarma, or the culinary predecessor to tacos al pastor.

As the name suggests, the site will also function as flour tortilla factory as well as a centralized kitchen; flavor-infused flour tortillas will be produced there for all Torres’ eateries including City Tacos in North Park and La Mesa, Tostadas in North Park and Imperial Beach’s IB Street Tacos.
