Wednesday, October 11 will mark the Renaissance San Diego Hotel’s official relaunch as Hotel Republic San Diego. Its new status as one of Marriott International’s boutique Autograph Collection Hotels brings a full redo of its dining options in a new partnership with The Patio Group, the local hospitality collective that operates an ever-growing number of restaurants including The Patio on Goldfinch, Fireside by The Patio and Harvest by The Patio.

The group also runs The Patio Marketplace in the lobby of Aventine La Jolla, and will bring a version of the casual cafe to Hotel Republic, where it replaces the former Kelvin restaurant on the B Street side. The all-day eatery, with 46 seats spanning the outdoor patio and inside dining room, will include an espresso bar and bakery counter with grab-and-go food items that should appeal to area office workers and sit-down service for breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel guests and neighborhood residents.

Hotel Republic’s executive chef Amol Thanky (The St. Regis and Restaurant Gary Danko in San Francisco) will oversee The Patio Marketplace’s healthy California-style eats as well as the menu at the upscale Trade, the lobby cocktail bar and restaurant featuring happy hour and a more formal dining experience, serving entrees ranging from seared sea scallops in mint brown butter sauce to tagliatelle pasta with heirloom tomatos and burrata cheese. The rooftop lounge, now dubbed Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar, is aiming to draw in sun-seekers for weekend brunch and yoga sessions and offer another nightlife option with happy hour, entertainment, late night hours and a menu of small plates with a focus on seafood.
