Mira Mesa’s Huge Dim Sum Palace Is Here

The new Chinese restaurant opens Tuesday

Officially launching Tuesday, August 8 is Fung Fung Yuen, a new 10,000-square-foot dim sum restaurant in the Mira Mesa Shopping Center. Owner Simon Lee remodeled a former Hometown Buffet, transforming it into a sparkling and spacious space, hung with chandeliers and done up in a modern Asian style, that can seat up to 360 diners.

The restaurant’s manager is Michael Tran, who had a long tenure at another local dim sum spot, Convoy’s Jasmine Seafood Restaurant. Fung Fung Yuen’s dim sum dishes, which range from steamed shrimp har gow, chicken feet and spinach dumplings to pan-fried turnip cake, baked barbecue pork buns and egg tarts, come in at 50 to 80 cents cheaper than its Kearny Mesa counterparts. The dim sum will be served via tableside carts and available all day long. Other Chinese specialities, including Peking duck, salt and pepper shrimp, soy sauce chicken and beef in black pepper sauce are on the menu along with an array of live seafood that includes steamed Dungeness crab, lobster and fish.

Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, Fung Fung Yuen has a bar pouring draft beer, wine, sake and soju and champagne-based cocktails. In the works is a banquet menu for large parties and a sushi station that should debut in a couple of months.
