Philz Coffee Brews Up New La Jolla Cafe

It should debut next month


Aiming to open by the end of August in The Shops at La Jolla Village at 8849 Villa La Jolla Drive, #307 is another location of Philz Coffee. Founded in San Francisco, the coffee company is experience a growth spurt that has extended to the San Diego area; the first local Philz opened earlier this year on South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas.

Philz Coffee doesn’t do lattes, cappuccinos or other espresso-based drinks, but rather specializes in drip coffee offered in over 20 customized coffee blends, from light to medium and dark, using house beans roasted at its facility in Oakland, as well as single origin coffees and seasonal blends. The full service coffee bars are staffed by baristas who fresh-grind beans for every cup and even mix in cream and sugar to taste. It’s also known for its iced coffee concoctions, including the Mint Mojito, Gingersnap and Mocha Tesora. A rep for the company told Eater that Philz doesn’t currently have any plans for more San Diego stores beyond Encinitas and La Jolla.
