Beloved for its fried chicken fingers, Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s has broken ground on its first area restaurant in Santee, where it plans to hire over 100 employees in preparation for opening the store in early 2018. Founded over a decade ago in Baton Rouge, Raising Cane’s has eight locations in California and more than 360 nationwide.
The company tells Eater that it anticipates opening numerous outposts in San Diego County over the next several years; the 3,360-square-foot Santee restaurant will be the first Raising Cane’s with a double drive-thru.
The eatery has built a fervent following (its fans are call ‘caniacs’) for its straightforward menu based on fresh, never frozen, chicken fingers which are hand-dipped and breaded and fried to order. The chicken fingers come in combo meals with secret recipe Cane’s sauce, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, and cooked-to-order Texas toast. Drinks range from sweet or unsweetened tea to fresh-squeezed lemonade.
