Artisanal Brewers Collective, a craft beer-based hospitality group with a significant and growing presence in Los Angeles, is extending its reach to San Diego, where it will be opening a new brewery and restaurant in Downtown San Diego. The Bell Marker is replacing The Beer Company on the corner of Broadway and Sixth, bringing in a 200-seat restaurant described as a “modern American brasserie” that will include an on-site brewery led by Noah Regnery, a native San Diegan who was the head brewer at Pizza Port San Clemente when it won "Small Brewpub of the Year" and “Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year" plus numerous medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup. In 2011, Regnery departed Pizza Port to take the helm at Hollister Brewing Company in Central California.
The team behind Artisanal Brewers Collective includes Tony Yanow, co-founder of LA’s Golden Road Brewing, which was sold last year. Named for the mission bell markers that mark the historic El Camino Real, which counts the Mission San Diego de Alcala as its southernmost point, The Bell Marker project is part of the hospitality group’s mission to “promote great beer by refocusing and redefining the craft beer and brewpub experience”.
The new restaurant, which is just beginning the construction phase, will pour house brews as well as offer guest beers and a full cocktail bar. Its menu, which is still in development, will focus on pizza plus shareable dishes and larger entrees.
