Lucky Liu’s, the Asian restaurant that closed last summer after two years in the Gaslamp, is being replaced by an upscale Mexican restaurant and bar called Patron’s Corner. The 3,000-square-foot eatery is being developed by 20-year industry veteran Paul Garduno, who has launched restaurants in Spain and Mexico and opened a number of since-shuttered local eateries including the Gaslamp’s Tequila 100 and Allegro Bistro in Middletown.
Patron’s Corner could open downtown as early as this month. A mostly-aesthetic redo of the space is aiming to transform it into what Garduno says will be reminiscent of an authentic tequileria, with rustic flooring, brick, wood and iron. The restaurant, which will serve dinner and brunch, will have a menu of traditional dishes from regions all over Mexico with an emphasis on seafood while the bar plans to feature creative cocktails highlighting tequila, mezcal and rum.
