Burgerim opens next month

Horton Plaza Park has finally signed on a tenant to occupy a food pavilion which has been vacant since the urban park launched last year. Joining Starbucks at Westfield Horton Plaza (Sloan’s Ice Cream shuttered its stand there recently) is an outpost of Burgerim, a fast-growing international franchise that specializes in customizable mini burgers. It’s scheduled to open Saturday, July 8.

The 2.8 ounce patties, available in 10 different options ranging from turkey, lamb, Wagyu beef, chorizo and veggie, can be ordered with optional toppings including pineapple, avocado or a sunny side up egg. White and wheat are the current bun choices, but a gluten-free version is coming soon.

Burgerim mini burgers are traditionally sold as a pair, trio or party pack, but the eatery just introduced a single burger that comes in a combo with fries and a drink. A rep says the restaurant is also planning to roll out specialty burgers for customers who don’t want to make the effort to customize their own. A larger location is rumored to be headed for Prospect Street in La Jolla, but an opening timeline is not yet available.
