Due to launch on August 21 on the San Diego State University campus is the second area location for Eureka!, a California-based chain of eateries with outposts throughout the Golden State and as far-flung as Colorado, Idaho and Texas. Its first San Diego branch open in Westfield UTC in 2013 and has become a popular pit stop for gourmet burgers, craft beer and a signature cocktail bar that also stocks a premium collection of American whiskey and bourbon, including the precious Pappy Van Winkle.

The new SDSU restaurant, part of the recently-completed South Campus Plaza, will cater to students and the surrounding community with a spacious 7,000-square-foot site that seats 200 guests. There’s a ton of patio space, including an indoor/outdoor bar with 40 craft beers on tap and more than 50 small-batch whiskeys, outdoor games like corn hole and a stage that will host live music.

Serving a menu of “American classics” based on burgers ranging from the Cowboy Burger topped with shoestring onions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and finished with beer barbeque sauce to the Bone Marrow Burger crowned with bone marrow porcini butter, charbroiled onion, horseradish mustard aioli, and roasted tomato, Eureka! also offers starters like mac n’ cheese balls with beer cheese sauce and watermelon salad, plus sandwiches including the Butcher’s Flat Iron Dip with caramelized onions, pickled Fresno chiles, horseradish mustard aioli, Havarti, and au jus. The SDSU location will be open until midnight Sunday through Wednesday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with daily “hoppy” hours from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to close. There will also be weekend brunch served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
