Three years after opening in the North Parker, Tacos Perla is relinquishing its prime North Park space. Owner Greg Strangman, whose L.W.P Group also runs The Pearl and numerous other properties said says he is retaining the Tacos Perla’s branding, including its “zonkey” mascot and its taco recipes, which were created by chef Oso Campos of Tijuana's acclaimed Tacos Kokopelli.

Strangman shared, “LWP Group has decided to focus more of its time, energy and effort on our core business, real estate redevelopment. We are extremely proud of the what we accomplished at Tacos Perla over the three years in business. We thank all of our guests for the years of support.”The 750-square-foot taco shop will likely continue to operate as is until its new proprietors take over.

Aiming for an August reopening is The Taco Stand, which already has outposts in La Jolla, Encinitas and Downtown San Diego. Founded by Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan, the eatery is inspired by the food stands of Tijuana. Hakim says the taqueria, which will serve both tacos and burritos, is based on traditional, straightforward dishes made with high quality ingredients.

Paul Ahern and Nate Benedetto of Next Wave Commercial are helping The Taco Stand with its continuing expansion, which is focused on North County, Orange County and Los Angeles and as far flung as Miami, where The Taco Stand will be launching a location this September.
