Breakfast Republic owner Johan Engman is opening a second morning-centric restaurant in North Park. Engman debuted his first Breakfast Republic in North Park in Summer 2015 and has since launched four more locations of the popular eatery, with more on the way. But the crowds that are still gathering the flagship Breakfast Republic on University Avenue spurred the Rise and Shine Breakfast Group founder, who also operates the Fig Tree Cafes, to bring another daytime option — North Park Breakfast Company — to the community.

Engman shared, “With the success of Breakfast Republic it is extremely important for me to have North Park Breakfast Company stand out and be different, being that it is also a breakfast only concept in the same neighborhood. NPBC will have no menu items that are the same as Breakfast Republic, everything will be different from the look and feel of the plates to the overall design of the restaurant. Breakfast Republic’s design is colorful and whimsical while the design of NPBC is more elegant with hand-selected furniture ranging from an antique concrete table base that was in the movie the Chronicles of Narnia to a sleek concrete banquette bench among many unique items.”

Due to open this August, North Park Breakfast Company will span a 2,125-square-foot space fronted by a garage-style window next to Art Produce on University Avenue. Inside, high ceilings and a living succulent wall will rise over the bar and comfy couch seating, while a newly-installed second floor deck will add more seating in the open air. Breakfast fare will range from guava-infused or quinoa-blueberry pancakes to gluten-free black rice and mushroom risotto, Denver omelet sliders and sweet potatoes stuffed with chicken sausage and scrambled eggs. On the super decadent side will be egg yolk-filled breakfast ravioli served with pork belly and bone marrow and chorizo with quail eggs. The restaurant will have a full liquor license, which means lots of craft beer, wine, and cocktails and as well as non-alcoholic drinks.
