Bracero Cocina in Little Italy will have its final hurrah on Saturday, June 3. Once the talk of the town, the Kettner Street restaurant is closing the book on its current form after just short of two years in operation. While supplies last, diners who reserve a table for the restaurant’s last night and order a meal on its artist-designed, iconic “hand plate” will get to take the plate home, and there will be giveaways of branded merchandise and other memorabilia items.
But the site won’t be dormant for long. Co-owner Luis Pena plans to turn around another restaurant in the space and reopen days later on Tuesday, June 6. A version of Pena’s long-tenured Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro in Bonita, Romesco Mexiterranean Cocina will span a casual tapas bar with a Spanish bullfighting theme downstairs and more upscale dining room on the second level that will serve a Mediterranean menu of Romesco favorites and some Bracero holdovers.
