The High Dive Bar Changing Hands in Bay Park

But don’t worry, the iconic bar won’t lose its original flavor

After 10 years of running San Diego’s “high class dive bar”, High Dive owner Ingrid Cherney is ready to pass along the torch. She founded the Morena Boulevard watering hole in 2007, working to shift the bar in a craft beer direction and launching the popular Chicks for Beer dinner series. Cherney, who is married to former Ballast Point Brewing Company COO and head brewer and Cutwater Spirits founder Yuseff Cherney, told Eater that she made the decision to sell the bar in order to spend more time with family

Luckily, the bar is staying in the family. Friend and longtime Ballast Point employee Ryan Glenn will officially be the High Dive’s new proprietor starting Monday, May 1. Glenn recently left Ballast Point after 20 years, working his way from its homebrew shop all the way up to the behemoth brewery’s vice president of operations.

A fan of the High Dive ever since the days when he delivered beer kegs to the bar, Glenn says is keeping much of its charm intact — including its friendly staff and its beloved pinball machines and lunchbox collection; the Chicks for Beer dinners will also continue. Some maintenance upgrades will be made to the space, along with the addition of a few new items to the food menu and cocktail list. A full-fledged beer geek, Glenn told Eater that he will be working to keep the craft beer selection varied and current.
