South Park’s Piacere Mio Premieres in North County

It brings handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and more

Bringing another full-service dining option to the burgeoning Del Sur Town Center is South Park’s Piacere Mio, which joins the just-opened North Park transplant Waypoint Public. After transitioning his Fern Street coffeehouse to a popular full-fledged restaurant in 2014, Piacere Mio co-owner Marco Fontana says he hopes to introduce some authentic and traditional Italian food into the surrounding North County community.

In a bright and modern space by designer Mariapaola Miele, who also created the look of the South Park flagship, Piacero Mio has just started serving dinner, but beginning this weekend will be open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The menu is based on South Park’s signatures including antipasti, meat and seafood-based entrees and housemade pasta fashioned in a variety of shapes to pair with different sauces. New to the Del Sur outpost is a wood oven program that fires pizza, foccacia and calzone; it’s headed up by master pizzaiuolo Augusto Folliero, a fourth-generation pizza-maker whose family has a famed pizzeria in Naples. When he’s not at Piacere Mio, Folliero is running Scugnizzi, his wood oven-fueled food truck that rolls up and cooks pizza at local breweries. Also new to this location, on top of Italian wines and craft beer, is a cocktail list that ranges from the classic negroni and aperol spritz to an old fashioned with black walnut bitters.
