City Tacos Village Taqueria has landed in La Mesa. It’s a full circle project for City Tacos owner Gerry Torres, who opened his first restaurant, an Italian eatery called Tiramisu Trattoria, in the neighborhood back in 2004. Torres, who in 2014 launched City Tacos to much success in North Park, also runs Tostadas in North Park and IB Street Tacos in Imperial Beach.
In collaboration with East County restaurateur Aaron Dean (Sheldon’s Service Station), the new 1,800-square-foot La Mesa outpost of City Tacos features historically popular tacos from the North Park location but the menu has also expanding to include new dishes ranging from the La Mesa shrimp taco to slow-cooked bean bowls and kid-friendly “quesitacos”. Torres says he’ll change up the menu with the seasons, potentially adding fresh seafood-topped tostadas in the summer months. The eatery is also awaiting its beer and wine license.
