Salt & Straw Plans Pre-Opening Pop-Ups in San Diego

While Portland-based ice cream company Salt & Straw is putting the finishing touches on its India Street scoop shop, its first foray into San Diego area, the company is rolling out a series of local pop-ups that will start this Friday, December 15.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on December 15 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 16, Salt & Straw will be bringing its “farm-to-cone” ice cream to James Coffee Co. on India Street. The local roaster is featured in a San Diego-exclusive flavor that will be available for preview; called James Coffee & Compartes Love Nuts, it’s made with James Coffee cold brew and chocolate-dipped caramel covered pecans, aka Love Nuts, from Los Angeles’ Compartes Chocolatier. The ice cream will also be avaialable at Modern Times Beer’s Lomaland Fermatorium in Point Loma from 3 to 7 p.m. on December 15 and from 1 to 5 p.m. on December 16.

The pop-up will then move to Herb & Eatery on Kettner Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 17 and Monday, December 18. Each pop-ups will offer $5 scoops of James Coffee & Compartes Love Nuts as well as Salt & Straw’s tried-and-true flavors including Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Freckled Woodblock Chocolate and vegan Roasted Strawberry Coconut. A portion of proceeds from the pop-ups will be going to San Diego Food Bank.
