Rolled ice cream, soft serve and more are on the way

Mira Mesa’s ICMonster will join the ranks of Kearny Mesa’s growing dessert shop brigade with a new store that’s scheduled to open later this month. Replacing Convoy Street sandwich spot Baguette Bros, which closed last month, ICMonster will bring over its signature Thai-style rolled ice cream, available in flavors ranging from Firecracker with Fruity Pebbles and popping candy to Matcha Heaven with green tea, lychee and red bean; the made-to-order ice cream rolls can be stuffed into a doughnut or into a warm Hong Kong egg waffle. The shop has also added soft serve ice cream to its menu, which also features an array of trendy boba drinks, including classic milk tea and purple-tinged butterfly pea flower tea with fruit-flavored boba poured into reusable glass bottles.

Founder Jenna Hu, who created a family of five colorful monster mascots for the brand, tells Eater that this location will be themed around Okie, the Oreo cookie monster; a special menu will be dedicated to Oreo-based treats. Also new will be a coffee program fueled by local Dark Horse Coffee Roasters.
