Three years and change into its residence on 5th Avenue, Don Chido has announced plans to shutter for a reboot starting on Thanksgiving Day. Run by RMD Group, which also operates Sidebar, Ciro’s, Knotty Barrel and Salvucci’s in the Gaslamp/East Village area, the 7,740-square-foot restaurant and bar intends to reopen by early 2018. Rustic Root, the group’s two-level eatery adjacent to Don Chido, will remain unchanged.
When it returns next year, Don Chido will be more nightlife-focused than before, offering an “elevated lounge experience with music, dancing and socializing” set in an upgraded space that will undergo a modern makeover from local Ocio Design Group (. The largest selection of agave spirits in the downtown area is promised, and Andre Alto, Don Chido’s executive chef since 2015, will be refreshing the menu. While some favorite dishes will be carried over, the majority of dishes, including a selection of “craft tacos”, will be new.
