Here’s hoping for sunny days ahead, so we can enjoy Ocean Beach’s breezy new indoor/outdoor restaurant, Voltaire Beach House, which is projected to open Friday, January 13 with brunch launching next weekend. The 3,000-square-foot space, formerly O’Bistro, has been thoroughly refreshed and expanded, and now boasts a dog and kid-friendly heated patio, a fire pit, and more than seventy seats across its open air floor plan. The eatery also plans to host community events in its adjacent parking lot.

Owner David Schiffman, who also operates Whiskey Girl and Florent in the Gaslamp, told Eater that he’s had the concept for an East Coast-inspired beach bar for some time but tailored it specifically for the tight-knit Ocean Beach community — tapping neighborhood resident Gabriel Shantz as general manager of the casual eatery, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays offering everything from breakfast to late night eats.

Consulting chef Abe Botello (West Coast Tavern) and executive chef Kamil Harvill created Voltaire Beach House’s New American menu, which centers around burgers, sandwiches, bowls, salads and starters that range from veggie toast and fried seafood to wings and flatbreads. At the wrap-around bar, there are 24 mostly local craft beer taps and drinks based on fresh juices, from frozen slushes to refreshing cocktails made with farmers market ingredients.
