A new carb heaven is soft opening this weekend on 30th Street. Award-winning Blackmarket Bakery, which first debuted in Costa Mesa in 2012 and launched another location in Santa Ana earlier this year, is planning to open its San Diego outpost on Friday.
The Blackmarket team, which includes pastry chef/founder Rachel Klemek and managing partner Alison Horn, have done a hands-on buildout of the 3,000-square-foot space, which includes a 1,500-square foot patio. The patio is still a work in progress, but it will eventually hold bar and communal seating, a kid's play area, and an herb garden.
Though the bakery's specialties are sweets, from flourless chocolate walnut cookies and bacon pecan brittle to chocolate tarts filled with salted caramel and cranberry shortbread, the eatery will also offer savory sandwiches including breakfast 'eggywiches' served all day and hot and cold sandwiches on house made bread that range from the Cheesy Fun Guy on seeded sourdough to a BLAT on a toasted croissant.
Blackmarket also offers cookie sundaes and pre-made cakes of all sizes in flavors that include the Straight Up Vanilla, Mango Tango and Uber Coconut. The all-day eatery is featuring Dark Horse Coffee and will be pouring craft beer and wine. During its soft opening phase, the bakery will be offering special pricing on its signature treats.
