Bird Rock Coffee Roasters Celebrates National Coffee Day

Plus, more jazz supper club and shutters in the Gaslamp and Hillcrest

AROUND TOWN— Recently awarded two silver medals and a bronze in the national Golden Bean coffee roasters competition, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is celebrating National Coffee Day (tomorrow, September 29) by roasting a small batch of its acclaimed and rare Geisha (Noria lot) and offering it at half price — $6 per cup the normal $11 — at all of its locations. Bird Rock will also have some of its award-winning coffee varieties available for purchase. [EaterWire]

LA JOLLA— Cusp Dining & Drinks continues the fall schedule of its Jazz Supper Club on September 29 with the Lorraine Castellanos Trio. The restaurant, located on the 11th floor of the Hotel La Jolla, offers the live music performances free with dinner reservations; upcoming concerts include the John Reynolds Trio on October 27 and the Stacy Antonel Trio on November 17. GASLAMP & HILLCREST— The tipline has reported the abrupt closure of two longtime eateries. Raucous watering hole Dick's Last Resort has shuttered after 25 years in the Gaslamp while Wine Steals is out of its original Hillcrest location, which first opened in 2003; the wine bar is still operating its Cardiff outpost.
