Real Bar & Bistro, which opened in the Solana Beach Towne Center in 2013, recently reopened after a reboot and redesign as a new concept called Ember + Still. Though it's still based on local ingredients and from-scratch cooking, the refreshed menu designed by new executive chef Erin Sullivan leans more casual, with shareable small plates given a "San Diego coastal twist". Its wood oven remains but the focus is less on pizza; there are more gluten-free and vegetarian options and new dishes that range from mussels with tomato confit to beef sliders with homemade barbecue sauce and Brussels sprouts with pickled shiitake mushrooms and Chinese mustard cream.
