Founded in San Francisco back in 2002 by Phil Jaber, Philz Coffee has brewed up nearly 30 cafes in the Bay Area, and embarked on a growth plan that first extended to Los Angeles and Washington D.C. and will soon spread to Boston and San Diego.
The first local Philz Coffee will land in Encinitas at 1060 S.Coast Highway 101; a rep says that they hope to begin construction there next month. And Philz is also opening in La Jolla Village Square, at 8849 Villa La Jolla Drive #307, where it will join the complex that also houses Whole Foods Market La Jolla. Philz has a huge fan base for its coffee program; rather than focusing on espresso drinks, the company centers its menu around unique drip coffee blends and signature tea and coffee drinks, including mint mojito iced coffee and Philz Fresh Chai, prepared to order by its baristas.
