DEL MAR— Amidst the bands at KAABOO over the weekend, a group of culinary rock stars took the stage on Saturday to compete in the Chef's Roll-sponsored KAABOO ROCK’N CHEF competition. Three head-to-head cooking battles whittled down the six competitors to two finalists, with the newly-returned Imperial Beach native chef Steve Brown (who is working on a new restaurant project in his hometown) ultimately emerging victorious over The Cork & Craft's Phil Esteban. Besides bragging rights and an array of prizes, Brown also wins entry to November's World Food Championships for a chance to win $100,000. [EaterWire]
