NORTH PARK— Newly installed at Encontro as executive chef is Jason Hotchkiss. Hotchkiss was a consulting chef on the project when it opened back in January and his impressive culinary resume includes an executive chef post at LA's Bottega Louis and corporate chef roles for Whisknladle Hospitality and the Cohn Restaurant group; most recently, he held the position of director of culinary operations for The Patio Group restaurants. The chef plans on enhancing Encontro's protein and greens-centric menu, which includes housemade sausages.
LA JOLLA— Tapped as the new executive chef at Herringbone is Jessie Glessner, who joins the Hakkasan Group restaurant from Roy's San Diego Waterfront, where she moved up the ranks to chef/partner after starting there as a line cook in 2009. An alum of San Francisco's California Culinary Academy, Glessner has worked in several local kitchens including Pacifica Del Mar.
GASLAMP— Gearing up to lead the kitchen at STK, the glitzy steakhouse headed for the Andaz San Diego is JC Colón. The chef, who has held key positions with local restaurant groups including Hakkasan Group, Urban Kitchen Group, and Blue Bridge Hospitality, last made news when he was picked to launch Las Vegas pizza concept Flour & Barley's entry into The Headquarters at Seaport.
DEL MAR— Joining Searsucker Del Mar is new executive chef Cesar Oceguera. Oceguera graduated from The French Culinary Institute in New York City and cooked at several restaurant concepts within Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, including Rao's Las Vegas and Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill. His most recent role was executive sous chef of the Hakkasan Group's Searsucker Las Vegas outpost.
PACIFIC BEACH— The Eat.Drink.Sleep. hospitality collective has parted ways with Danilo "DJ" Tangalin, who took the helm at JRDN at Tower23 last year and created the menus for Decoy Dockside Dining, the signature restaurant of the group's newly-opened Lakehouse Hotel & Resort in San Marcos.
