Opening later this month to catch the tail end of baseball season is Larry's Deli, which is entering the East Village at 323 7th Avenue. The new 1,400-square-foot eatery is owned by J Street Hospitality and operated by Azul Hospitality Group, the partners behind The Nolen, the Gaslamp's rooftop cocktail lounge.
Specializing in deli classics, the menu was developed by chef Vanessa Briscoe, who previously worked at Whole Foods La Jolla. It features meat from RC Provisions, which also supplies Los Angeles deli icons Langer's and Canter's. Tucked into bread from local bakery Bread & Cie, the 10-sandwich list includes a Reuben with house made sauerkraut, turkey with house made hazelnut tarragon pesto, hot pastrami with housemade whole grain mustard cornichon spread, housemade porchetta, and grilled cheese, with sides ranging from potato salad to macaroni salad, baked beans and coleslaw. Briscoe will also cook up a soup of the day, and fresh bake cookies for dessert.
Though the menu is designed for takeaway ease, there will be picnic and counter-style seating available along with four rotating beer taps and a variety of bottled beer and wine. Larry's Deli will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
