Two of the main players behind the recently-announced Stone Hotel in Escondido have just revealed another hotel project that's slated to join the mix at Point Loma's Liberty Station complex. Headed for the northwest corner of Dewey and Truxtun Roads in the Arts District section of the development, which spans an array of art galleries and museums, plus dining destinations and entertainment venues that range from Liberty Public Market to The Lot, is The Barracks Hotel.

The developers partnering on Stone Hotel — San Diego-based hospitality group Untitled Hospitality and McMillin LLC, a new entity from The Corky McMillan Companies (Liberty Station's developers) — will begin construction on the hotel next year, with the aim of opening in late 2018. The $20 million project will include 90-plus rooms and have a focus on the arts; non-profit NTC Foundation will curate artwork throughout the property, with Chris Bittner of local firm obr Architecture overseeing the design and construction. Though The Barracks will be surrounded by food and drink options, a rep for the owners says that there will be a some form of dining establishment on-site.
