Hot doughnuts will soon pop up in Carmel Mountain, where Krispy Kreme is planning to launch a new store on Tuesday, August 2. The chain, which was first founded in North Carolina in the 1930's and now has more than 1,000 locations around the globe, currently has outposts in Chula Vista and Clairemont Mesa.

Operating hours start at 5:30 a.m. daily and for the August 2 grand opening, Krispy Kreme plans on thrilling the first 50 people in line with free doughnuts for a year; the first 10 people will get free doughnuts each week for a year and the next 40 people will receive free doughnuts every month for a year, plus the first 100 people in line will score Krispy Kreme commemorative t-shirts. As with all stores, doughnuts here will be made fresh all day and night, with four new limited time flavors on the menu: Churro, Crème Brûlée, Tiramisu, and Strawberry Shortcake.

UPDATED: This Krispy Kreme opening comes with some controversy, as the doughnut mega-chain is planting itself just steps from beloved neighborhood mom n' pop shop Sesame Donuts; NBC 7's Consumer Bob has more.
