Beating Shake Shack to the San Diego market is Grub Burger Bar, a national chain with a large presence in Texas and outposts as far and wide as Philadelphia and Florida. Locally-based, family-owned Passion Project Group will be overseeing the operations of the burger concept's first Southern California location, which is scheduled to debut in Carmel Mountain Ranch in early August.
Helping to distinguish it from the rest of the fast-casual pack are its from-scatch sensibilities, which include grinding a signature blend of chuck and brisket for its patties every morning as well as baking fresh burger buns throughout the day. Non-beef burger options include ahi tuna, turkey and chickpea patties, plus salads, panko-breaded onion rings and handcut fries. Grub Burger Bar will also offer a full bar, featuring craft cocktails, craft beer and milkshakes that include several options spiked with booze. .
The first San Diego eatery will be designed by ID Studio 4 with an industrial look in natural wood, brick, steel and glass; garage door windows will open onto a spacious patio with an outdoor fire feature. A grand opening party is currently scheduled for August 9, and will include prize giveaways and fundraisers for local organizations.
