Eater readers have been wondering what would take the place of Kitchen 4140, which closed last fall after five years on Morena Boulevard, with chef/owner Kurt Metzger subsequently relocating to Palm Springs.
We have word that new proprietor Caroline Sternberg is planning to open Red Card Café in the space later this summer. As the name suggests, the Europe-born Sternberg is an avid soccer fan, and the concept is inspired by the all of the cultures around the globe that play and celebrate the game.
Due in August, Red Card will have a menu of globally-influenced starters and entrees, plus a street food section featuring everything from poutine to pierogi. Leading the kitchen is chef de cuisine Drew Lopez, who was recently executive sous chef at S&M Sausage and Meat and sous chef at Brian Malarkey’s Green Acre in UTC.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, the eatery will also offer weekend brunch; Sternberg is currently remodeling the space and opening it up to add more seating, a bar and lounge area and TVs.
