The Wellington Steak and Martini Lounge, as we know it, shuttered over the weekend after a six-year run in Mission Hills in preparation for a revamp and fresh concept that will align it with adjacent sister eatery The Red Door Restaurant & Wine Bar, which sources local products for its seasonal menu.
Newly dubbed Bar by Red Door, with an anticipated reopening in mid-August, it will feature 'farm-to-glass' cocktails from head bartender Brandt Sternberg that will pair with a small plates food lineup from Miguel Valdez, executive chef of The Red Door.
Trish Watlington, who owns both restaurants, intends for Bar by Red Door to be a "true cocktail bar and comfortable gathering space"; her redesign for The Wellington space includes adding large front windows to face Washington Street.
