Galaxy Taco's Cinco de Mayo; Bacon & Barrels Fest

LA JOLLA— Galaxy Taco continues its guest chef Taco Tuesday Takeover tonight, May 3, with a trio of tacos by executive chef Joe Magnanelli from CUCINA urbana and CUCINA enoteca; Magnanelli will be cooking up a fried shrimp taco, a duck chorizo taco and an Italian-influenced porchetta taco. The eatery will also be offering some Cinco de May specials, including $5 margaritas and $7 carnitas nachos, all day on May 5. [EaterWire]

EMBARCADERO— The third annual Bacon & Barrels festival is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at downtown’s Embarcadero Marina Park South. The day is all about celebrating delicious pork, with eateries ranging from Dobson's to Sandwich Emporium, Slater's 50/50 and Uptown Tavern showing off their best bacon dishes along with unlimited samples of beer and spirits. There will also be live chef and mixologist demos, live music, a Giant Jenga tournament and a best in show competition judged by an industry panel and attendees. General admission tickets are $50. COLLEGE AREA— Eureka! Burger will be opening its second area location in a new mixed-use development at San Diego State University called South Campus Plaza, where it will slot into a 4,000-square-foot space in the complex that's scheduled to launch in 2017.
