All-Outdoor Eatery Shore Rider Surfs Into La Jolla Shores

A new wave of food hits the beach

With a motto that says 'No shirt, no shoes, no problem', is a new casual spot that will welcome even wet and sandy diners to its all-outdoor space located a short stroll from La Jolla Shores beach.

Calling it a "community sandbox", owner Darren Moore (formerly La Puerta) has created an ocean-inspired beer garden that he hopes will become a neighborhood hangout just in time for the summer season. Spanning a 2,300-square-foot partially-covered dining patio, the surf and beach-themed Shore Rider features a large bar stocked with 16 beer taps and draft wine that will also offer warm weather sippers including soju-based frozen drinks, sangria and micheladas.

Open at 11 a.m. daily, Shore Rider is serving a menu that includes $3 tacos, ceviche and poke, plus salads, burgers and sandwiches; it's designed for portability — the eatery hopes to do brisk takeout business with the beach-going crowd. And look for weekend brunch to arrive soon.
