Grant Grill's Nautical Cocktails; Viva Pops Expands to Scripps Ranch

Plus, OB Surf Lodge replaces Shades

DOWNTOWN— As we head into the summer season, the Grant Grill has released a new cocktail menu, dubbed 'Three Sheets to the Wind' from the mind of 'chef de bar' Cory Alberto inspired by nautical themes and coastal influences. The Star of India combines Old Harbor Navy Strength rum with gin, aloe liqueur, yellow chartreuse, glogg and housemade Buddha’s Hand bitters while the SS Monte Carlo mixes Henebery whiskey with port, dry vermouth, Crème Yvette, coriander blossom, mascarpone cheese and blueberry. And pina colada fans might like the East Indie Fizz, a blend of Carta Blanca rum, coconut, micro cilantro, pistachio and lime. [EaterWire]

SCRIPPS RANCH— Viva Pops, the beloved frozen treats shop on Adams Avenue, has expanded to a second location in Scripps Ranch at 10299 Scripps Trail, Suite E which is now open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The family-owned company specializes in seasonal fruit paletas using local organic produce and a variety of ice cream pops in flavors that include salted caramel and Mexican chocolate. [EaterWire]

OCEAN BEACH— After over a decade on Santa Monica Avenue, Shades Oceanfront Bistro will shutter after labor day. The new ownership team just happens to operate the adjacent Wonderland Ocean Pub, as well as The Local in Pacific Beach and downtown.
