Tipsters and coffee fanatics have been nudging us to check out North Park's new Communal Coffee, which just opened on a prime corner at Texas and University adjacent to the charming North Park Nursery.
To fuel the coffee program, owner Jen Byard, an entrepreneur who runs a local clothing line and the bi-annual Makers Arcade fair, looked to bring a roaster new to the San Diego market; Communal Coffee is now the first local coffee bar serving San Francisco's acclaimed Sightglass Coffee. The bar is doing all the prerequisite espresso drinks, plus cold brew and pour overs and a few sweet sippers, including a lavender-honey latte and a salted caramel mocha.
Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Communal Coffee offers a breakfast menu of baked goods from North Park's Cardamom Cafe & Bakery, as well as housemade morning starters ranging from chocolate-chia pudding to avocado toast that can be augmented with an egg or prosciutto; lunch dishes, including salad and charcuterie boards, are coming soon. Byard also told Eater that she hopes to secure a beer and wine license and launch a weekend waffle bar on the outdoor patio shared with the nursery. .
And there are flowers! Floral bar Native Poppy operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the space, retailing custom-curated bouquets and gifts.
