Kettner Exchange's BajaMed Wine Dinner; New Chinese Opens on Convoy

Plus, it's beer vs. wine at Barrel Republic

LITTLE ITALY— Chef Miguel Angel Guerrero, the founder of BajaMed cuisine, will collaborate with Kettner Exchange executive chef Brian Redzikowski for a special dinner on Monday, May 16 co-hosted by Baja Wine + Food on the Little Italy restaurant's rooftop patio. The two chefs will grill and smoke a six-course farm-to-table dinner designed to pair with wine from the Valle de Guadelupe, including Adobe Guadalupe, Vinícola Torres Alegre y Familia, Paoloni Wines by Villa Montefiori, Lomita, Monte Xanic and Finca La Carrodilla. KEARNY MESA— After a year on Convoy Street, Korean eatery Myung In Dumplings has relocated to the Zion Market food court. In its place is the recently opened Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. Serving Chinese food from the northern province of Shanxi, the redesigned restaurant features a variety of noodles, including the region's signature knife-cut noodles (listed on the menu as 'hand-ripped') and a large number of lamb dishes. Mmm-yoso has an early report. OCEANSIDE— On Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m.,Barrel Republic is hosting Battle of the Barrels, a beer versus wine dinner that will pit barrel-aged beer from Stone Brewing Co. against wines from St. Mayhem that have been aged with unique ingredients. You'll be the judge as to which beer or wine pairs best with each of the four courses, which include Stone Brewing Co. Winter Harvest Triple aged in barrels and foudres with red wine grapes and St. Mayhem 2013 Chardonnay aged with peach and ginger served with pan seared fish, peach gastrique, braised leeks and almond crumble.
