High End Korean Barbecue Planned For Kearny Mesa

It could open by the end of April

A Convoy Street storefront that has long been the home of Korean barbecue — most recently Blue Korea House — is scheduled to reopen by the end of the month after a complete redo. It will still offer Korean barbecue, but the new ownership is modeling the concept after the higher-end restaurants that populate Los Angeles' Koreatown.

Prime Grill plans to be first of its kind in San Diego, where our Korean barbecue options have traditionally ranged from all-you-can-eat joints to casual eateries. Featuring premium meats — from prime beef to pork and chicken – which will be freshly cut in a display area within view of the dining room, it will seat 150 for lunch and dinner at tables equipped with grills where the restaurant's staff will handle the cooking for each party. There will also be three private rooms of various sizes, each housing a set grill-topped tables. Beyond barbecue, Prime Grill will also serve a curated selection of traditional dishes cooked by its chef, transplanted straight from Korea to run the kitchen.
