After two years in Texas, where he ran a popular food truck, Mr. Fish, that served Baja-style seafood to San Antonio and surrounding cities, owner Martin Arellano is headed home to San Diego.
Arellano just signed the lease on an 1,800-square-foot storefront that will soon be the brick-and-mortar Mr. Fish — Fish Taco Shack, which is slated to open by August 1 in Barrio Logan on the same block as Border X Brewing's tap room.
Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends, Mr. Fish will serve a menu of gourmet street food, including twists on Baja fish tacos, surf and turf burritos and lemon pepper fries topped with carne asada, crispy onions and chipotle sauce or mahi mahi and grilled pineapple. There will also be 12 taps of beer, plus wine. Arellano tells Eater that he plans to relocate the food truck to local streets and has designs on more Mr. Fish shops in San Diego.
