The first of the new wave of local tiki-inspired projects has taken root in Mission Beach, where Miss B's Coconut Club is now open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The newly-remodeled 2,300-square-foot space has a breezy indoor/outdoor layout and a tropical feel that extends to the food and drink.
Among the signature cocktails is the Havana Good Time, a draft cocktail that comes in a pineapple mug as a sipper for two or in a larger, shareable flamingo-shaped punch bowl; based on a mix of vodka and pamplemousse, the drink is made with house grapefruit and cucumber cordial and kombucha. There's also a version of the classic painkiller and mai tai, a house-bottled and carbonated Cuba Libre, and a rum and apricot brandy refresher — the Caribe Welcome — which comes in a whole young coconut.
In the kitchen, executive chef Christina Pancheri is cooking up dishes based on Caribbean and Cuban flavors and ingredients, ranging from jerk chicken and curried coconut shrimp to a Cuban sandwich and citrus-marinated skirt steak. Miss B's also offers a brunch menu every day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., which includes coconut-rum French toast, a Monte Cristo sandwich and a ropa vieja hash with braised beef, Jamaican beer cheese and chimichurri.
