North County Mainstay Bernard'O Winds Down After Two Decades

There's still time to dine at this family-owned favorite

Facebook

After 24 years in Rancho Bernardo, Bernard'O Restaurant has been sold and will shutter in a couple months' time. Proprietor Bernard Mougel, who opened the upscale California-French eatery in 1992 with wife Diana, tells Eater that he will be retiring when the restaurant ultimately closes its doors.

Mougel shared that he is handing the keys to a young couple from France who own several restaurants there; they will be remodeling the space and changing it into a more casual bistro (stay tuned for more info). The new proprietors aren't taking over right away, so Mougel says that he will keep Bernard'O running until then.

Location Matters' Mike Spilky facilitated the sale and said, "It’s been a pleasure working with Bernard to help him secure the right buyer for his restaurant, and to continue a legacy in this location that will undoubtedly be there for years to come."
